Editor's Notes: This
postcard of Oak Island, NC features Long Beach Fishing Pier which
closed on January 6, 2006 to make way for oceanfront homes.
Editor's Update: As of June 24, 2006, Long Beach Pier has
yet to be demolished, as originally planned. The building that once housed the grill and
tackle shop has been demolished as originally planned. The pier
still stands, as of this date, in substantially the same condition
as when the pier closed for business on January 6, 2006. Reports
indicated that the developer of the property has decided to leave
the pier for private use by the future residents of the property.
