Ocean Isle Beach Chapter of American Wine Society Announces Tasting Theme For June

Ocean Isle Beach Chapter Meeting June 23, 2013

June 5, 2013 - Ocean Isle Beach, NC - Today the Ocean Isle Beach Chapter of the American Wine Society announced the theme for its next scheduled meeting and wine tasting event.

The Ocean Isle Beach Chapter will hold its next wine tasting event for area wine lovers and their guests on June 23rd. The theme for this meeting will be "A Vertical Tasting of Cabernet Sauvignon." This tasting will feature seven Cabernet wines and will include a vertical tasting from Santa Ema Winery of three vintage years of its Amplus Cabernet Sauvignon. These 90+ point wines are from 2007, 2008, and 2009. Attendees will be able to compare this wine’s vintage years as well as to contrast them with other wines from this same period.

May's meeting, which featured wines from Chateauneuf du Pape, was a well received, and featured some of the best wines the group has tasted to date, said Barwikowski, Chapter chair. "The tasting featured 6 wines from the southern Rhone Valley appellation of Chateauneuf du Pape. This region which loosely translates to "The Pope's new castle" dates back to 1308 when Pope Clement V relocated the papacy to the town of Avignon. As a result, its history is deeply entwined with that of papal history, and wines of the region have traditionally been packaged in distinctive, heavy dark wine bottles embossed with papal regalia and insignia. For area wine lovers of any level, who want to learn more about wine, a Chapter tasting event can be worthwhile."

The Chapter has plans for future tastings which will feature wines from Germany, South Africa and participation in the national tasting project featuring Rhone style wines. Everyone is welcome to attend chapter meetings.

Chapter meetings are held at the Silver Coast Winery located at 6680 Barbeque Rd. Ocean Isle Beach, NC 28469. The meeting will be held on June 23rd starting at 4:00 PM, and will have a strict limit of 40 attendees. The cost of the tasting will be $10 for AWS members. The guest tasting fee is $15, $5 of which will be refunded, if the guest joins the American Wine Society. All guests are urged to bring their favorite wine glass for this event. Prior to the tasting, the chapter will hold a brief meet and greet social with wine, and cheese being served.
