Southport's Old South Tour Company Kicking Off 10th Tour Season

April 18, 2013 - Southport, NC - Old South Tour Company is kicking off its tenth season offering tours of historic Southport, North Carolina.

The company is owned and operated by accredited lower Cape Fear historian Katie Compton.

"Southport is a quaint, charming town with a compelling history," says Compton. "Southport’s charm is the reason it was chosen as the setting for Nicholas Sparks' Safe Haven, and its history is part of its charm. We are passionate about unlocking the secrets of Southport's history and introducing our wonderful town's charm to our tour guests."

Compton earned a degree in History from UNC-Wilmington in Southern antebellum history and Oral Interpretation of Southern Literature and Culture. She has lived in Southport since her middle school years and has invested countless hours studying the area's history.

Old South Tour Company's signature tour is the historic Ghost Walk by Lantern Light, a 90-minute tour that begins at the famous Whittler's Bench on the historic Southport waterfront. Tours typically begin at 8 p.m. every Tuesday through Sunday from Memorial Day through Labor Day, or by reservation.
