Small Business Saturday A Success
November 29, 2012
- Southport, NC – Small Business Saturday was a
great example of how joining together we can accomplish
more. By joining the nationwide Small Business Saturday
promotion, we were able to get more attention on the
Southport-Oak Island business community and stress the
importance of supporting small businesses. Consumers
were made aware of Small Business Saturday in part
through the efforts of American Express' nationwide
advertising campaign, which focused on the importance of
small businesses in our local economies. Locally, more
specific Small Business Saturday reporting was the focus
of news stories by The State Port Pilot, WECT TV6,
Southport Magazine and WWAY TV3.
Let us continue this movement to support local small
businesses year-round. We encourage you to have a
conversation with your employees about the importance of
small businesses in our community and how prosperous
small businesses are good for the health of our local
economy. Let them know that our small businesses rely on
each other to survive. Encourage them to shop local and
talk positively about other small businesses in our
community. Insist they provide great customer service
and explain how vital this service is to the continued
success of your business and their paycheck.
Small Business Saturday was not just a retailer or
restaurant promotion, although the focus locally was
shaped by the nature of those businesses who chose to
participate in our efforts. We would like to thank the
following members for taking advantage of the
opportunity presented to them by the Chamber and
partnering in our local Shop Small Saturday promotion.
We hope more will participate next year!
