Cape Fear Oil Company Postcard
Southport Times Adds Rare Cape Fear Oil
Company Postcard To Collection
See Additional Scans of This Card
August 28, 2012 –
Southport, NC – The Southport Times is please to
announce the addition of a rare
Cape Fear Oil
Company postcard to their
collection of
postcards. The postcard shows a view of the
Cape Fear Oil Company dock on the Cape Fear River. While
the card is not dated, it likely dates from the 1910s.
A unique feature to note about this card is the faceless
man stepping out of his boat and onto the dock. Is this
a ghost or apparition? Was it intended to represent
fishermen who have died at sea in the Southport area? Or
is this just a simple printing error? It would be
unusual to print a postcard with a faceless person,
especially in the 1910s, and it is equally unlikely that
this was a printing error that went unnoticed. Draw your
own conclusion about this unique aspect of this
postcard.
