September 29, 2011 - Southport, NC - When you find a good investment, you stick with it. That's why St. James residents Joan and Walt Madsen are supporting the Communities In Schools of Brunswick County, Inc (CIS) Annual Benefit Gala for Children for the tenth straight year. The Madsens have been sponsoring the event since it was first held in 2002. "We care about the children of Brunswick County. They are an investment in our future," said Mrs. Madsen, who is also Chair of the CIS Board of Directors.

Their confidence is not misplaced. CIS activities attract $6 in wages and profits and $5.45 in grant support per dollar of public support given to provide programs and services for Brunswick County families. Funds generated by the gala sustain after school programs, teen and peer courts, the Adopt-A-School and Volunteer Program, Leland Family Resource Center, Parenting Education Programs, the Dropout Prevention Program and academic scholarships.

Mark Koval, Resource Development Director, realizes "Times are tough, but our community recognizes the importance of children. By supporting them with programs and services which aid in their well-being, we provide them with the foundation they need to succeed in school and life." The mission of CIS is to connect community resources with the schools to help meet this goal.

Many Brunswick County businesses and individuals have made commitments to local children and families with their support of the gala. Dinah and Ed Gore, along with Carolyn Felton and Peter Laboy, Financial Advisors, Wells Fargo Advisors, LLC, are this year's presenting sponsors. Diamond and Platinum sponsors are First Bank of Brunswick County and Brunswick Electric Membership Corporation. Gold sponsors are Andy's of Brunswick County, Archer Daniels Midland Company, The Bellamy Law Firm, Carolina Creations Landscapes, Inc., Joan and Walt Madsen, Progress Energy Carolinas, Inc., The Red Apple Group, Jonathan Richmond & Associates, Inc., and St. James Properties, LLC.

The Gala will take place on Thursday, October 27 at Sea Trail Golf Resort and Convention Center in Sunset Beach. For tickets, sponsorship opportunities, and general information contact Mark Koval at 457-2929.
