September
29, 2011 - Southport, NC - The U.S. Small Business
Administration Office of Advocacy reports small
businesses—those with fewer than 500 employees—are
generally the creators of most net new jobs, as well
as the employers of about half of the nation's
private sector work force, and the providers of a
significant share of innovations, as well as half of
the nonfarm, private real gross domestic product. To
honor and assist this important segment of our
economy and membership, The
Southport-Oak Island Area Chamber of Commerce in
partnership with Wilmington SCORE (Service Corps of
Retired Executives) with financial assistance from
Progress Energy will hold a Small Business Summit
and Resource Fair on Friday, October 14th in The
Brunswick Resource Center in
Southport located at 1513 N. Howe Street.
The summit will begin at 8:00am with "A Two Way
Conversation About Business With Your State
Officials." During the summit our North Carolina
legislative delegation - N.C. Senator Bill Rabon and
N.C. Representative Frank Iler, will update business
leaders with the latest information from Raleigh
about legislation that affects business. At 8:45am
the formal presentations will end and a resource
fair will begin. The resource fair will give
business owners the opportunity to network and shop
vital services to a business' success. Resource
providers include SCORE, SBTDC @ UNCW, USSBA, BCC
SBC, business coaching, accounting, insurance,
banking, financial planning, and more. The resource
fair will end at 10:00am.
Attending the Small Business Summit and Resource
Fair is free but registration is required by calling
910-457-6964 or email
info@southport-oakisland.com by October 10th.
