Oak Island, NC - Local community members are joining
grass roots Americans at area beaches in a peaceful
gathering to support clean air, oceans and beaches.
Last year this international event took place in 42
countries.
Oak Island has the beach and we are inviting
folks from each of the surrounding communities to
participate.
Beginning at the Cabana (46th Street, behind Oak
Island Town Hall) and stretching east and west to
the
fishing piers, beach goers will form a line in
the sand and join hands from noon until 12:15. We
are making our voices heard to leave nothing but
footprints on our beaches and to keep our air and
oceans clean by not contributing to unsustainable
practices. We embrace a clean energy future for a
sustainable planet.
Joining hands sends a powerful visual message of
human solidarity; unified in the defense of the air
we breath, the water we drink and the food we
consume. Every time we join hands that message is
reinforced. A line in the sand is a powerful thing.
It's simple and logical: Embrace A Clean
Environment.
Everyone is
encouraged to wear t-shirts, carry banners/signs for
their schools, organizations and businesses to show
our universal support.
If your business or organization would like to
participate, call Bettie Thorne at 919-413-3585 or
Wendi Schneider at 910-448-0664. There is no cost
for this event. All you have to do is bring your
friends, family, business associates to the beach on
June 25th. You can park at any beach access between
the two piers and walk east or west until you see
the line. Assistants will be stationed at the major
beach accesses to direct you and ask you to sign in
so they can get a count of participants which will
go on the Hands Across The Sand website.
The goal is to
stretch the line from pier to pier!
