May 31, 2011 - Southport, NC - The Southport Shopping District will transform into a stage from 4pm-6pm on Thursday, June 2nd for “Shop to the Beat”. “Shop to the Beat” unites the natural combination of shopping and dining with “play”, creating a festive, fun, family atmosphere to encourage consumers to spend time in downtown Southport.

During “Shop to the Beat” music, entertainment and games will be staged throughout the business districts – Uptown, Midtown and Downtown. The 38 participating restaurants and shops will add to the festive nature of “Shop to the Beat” by offering specials.

Those participating include in Downtown: PJ’s Restaurant, Fishy Fishy Café, Yacht Basin Provision Company , Cape Fear Restaurant , Trolly Stop, The Pharmacy Restaurant, Moore Street Market, Sylvia Beck AgriArt, BullFrog Corner, The Christmas House, Port City Java, Ports of Call Bakery & Bistro (opening soon), Cattail Cottage. Midtown: Franklin Square Art Gallery, Art @ 211 The Ricky Evans Gallery, Magnolia Gifts, Boo & Roos, Mr. P’s Bistro, Four Legs Good Pet Boutique, Ropa, Dry Street Pub & Pizza, Backyard Wild, The Wine Rack, Rebecca’s Fabrications. Uptown: Sole Searching, Isaac Allen, Uncorked by the Sea, Renee’s Fine Jewelry, Live Oak Café, ABC Consignment, Taylor’s Cuisine Café & Catering, National Petland, Swaynes Antiques, Crafts & Things, Thrifty by Nature, Locals Family Diner, Swordfish Grille, Artistry, Olde Southport Village Shoppes and Painted Mermaid.

The entertainment lineup changes daily as our performing arts community finds out about the opportunities. A sampling of entertainment for June 2nd includes Tommy Hutchinson and friends playing country/blue grass; Alan Waters on guitar; Tyler James playing guitar/ukulele and saxophone; Deb Wilson on keyboard singing variety of R&B, Pop, Rock; Jon Morris, playing country & rock; Tim Hamilton on guitar & harmonic singing Rock Tropical; Stanley Mandell on violin; Suzanne Cassidy singing Big Band, classical and Broadway; Vario local band playing rock; SpinMasters Entertainment spinning the hottest tunes; Jim Ashley on guitar singing folk and blues; Corn bag toss fun with Jim & Honey Martin; and costumed interpreters from Brunswick Town State Historic Site/Fort Anderson.

The City of Southport restroom facilities at the Garrison House and Visitor Center will be open for the “Shop to the Beat” until 7pm.
