Person of the Year Award & Customer Service Award
You have until
May 2nd to nominate a small business you feel
desires recognition as the
Southport-Oak Island Area Chamber of Commerce
Small Business Person or Customer Service Award.
To be eligible to compete for the award, the
nominated business must be a member of our Chamber
and in operation for a minimum of 5 years.

Casting Call......
The Southport-Oak
Island Area Chamber of Commerce is looking for
amateur entertainers that are willing to donate
their time and talents to be the "beat" in the new
"Shop to the Beat" promotion. Do you juggle, face
paint, play an instrument(s), do magic or card
tricks, mime, sing...? Want an avenue to show off
your talents or just have a fun time entertaining?

Welcome New
Neighbor Packets
The Southport-Oak Island Area Chamber of Commerce
will mail a welcome new neighbor packet to 1,000 new
residents of Brunswick County. The packet will
include a Vacation & Resident's Guide and "Your A
Local Passport". The Passport is 5.5 X 8.5 in size.
Passport ads will be one color and should contain a
special offer to the new resident.
Do you want to be
a part of the Passport? For $298.00 or less than .30
cents per person, your Passport page will give you
the opportunity to market your merchandise or
service directly to 1,000 new Brunswick County
resident. We will be offering this opportunity to
the first 14 businesses who call Karen at
910.457-6964.
Don't
wait....after the first 14 ads are taken, we will
not repeat the program until the 1,000 packets are
mailed.

This program is for women in business. It's focus is
to create a supportive network and to discuss women
related issues.
SBHS Career
Fair -May 13th
The Southport-Oak
Island Area Chamber of Commerce Education Committee
is working with South Brunswick High School to
secure professionals to share their career expertise
with 9th and 10th grade students at the school. The
SBHS Career Fair will be on Friday, May 13th from
1:45pm - 2:45pm in the school's main gymnasium.
Tables and chairs will be provided. Students are
signing up to attend the Career Fair and will arrive
with questions to ask as they visit the tables. If
you would like to participate in the Career Fair,
call Karen by May 4th at 457-6964.

Beach Lovers
Posters Available
The Southport-Oak Island Area Chamber of Commerce
encourages all the businesses on Oak Island to post
a "Beach Lover" poster. The Oak Island Beach
Preservation Society has purchased with its own
funds Beach Lover posters for the business
community. They will be distributing them door to
door within the next month. It will not cost you
anything but window space. The official "Beach
Lover" message is in the form of a pledge "to keep
off dunes and plants, pick up trash, fill in holes,
protect sea turtles, and remove all gear from the
beach when I leave each day."
