NC -
The American Red Cross (Cape Fear Chapter) will host
the inaugural Flip Flop Fling fundraiser on May 6,
2011 at the Southport Community Center. This fun and
festive beach themed social begins at 6 p.m. and
will include a silent auction, 50/50 cash raffle,
and flip flop contest with fun prizes for winners. A
delicious upscale beach barbeque buffet will be
prepared by Murphy-Brown, Inc. and Coastal Catering.
Guests can enjoy an open beer and wine bar
throughout the evening while they listen to the
sounds of popular local steel drum band, The Sea
Pans. Tickets are $50 per person and can be
purchased at
www.CapeFearRedCross.org or by calling
910-762-2683 x361.
All proceeds from
the event will benefit the American Red Cross (Cape
Fear Chapter) in support of relief provided to area
residents affected by tornadoes, house fires, floods
and countless other local disasters. Fundraisers
such as the Flip Flop Fling enable the Red Cross to
help communities prevent, prepare for, and respond
to disasters and other emergencies, and to provide
food, clothing, shelter, emotional support and other
assistance to meet the immediate emergency basic
needs of those directly impacted by disaster.
Last year alone,
the American Red Cross (Cape Fear Chapter) responded
to 110 disasters in Brunswick, Columbus, Duplin, New
Hanover and Pender counties and provided much needed
relief and assistance to 420 area residents,
including 160 children, directly impacted by
disaster.
The Red Cross is
not a government agency and it depends on
contributions from the public to provide vital
programs and services in local communities. Those
who want to help Cape Fear residents affected by
disasters can make a donation to support their local
Red Cross chapter. Monetary gifts to the American
Red Cross (Cape Fear Chapter) can be made online at
www.CapeFearRedCross.org, mailed to 1102 South
16th St., Wilmington, NC 28401, or by calling
910-762-2683 to make a donation by phone.
