Hosts 44th Annual Nicklaus Design Reserve Club Plays Host to Golf Tournament Press Release
May 30, 2008 – St. James, North Carolina (NC) - The Reserve Club, St. James Plantation’s signature Nicklaus Design golf course, will host the 44th North Carolina Open golf tournament, June 2-5. The NC Open is the second of the Carolina PGA Section’s major tournaments. The tournament format is a 54-hole stroke play with a cut to the low 60 and ties after the second round. Players compete for more than $40,000 in cash and prizes. Steve Isley, The Reserve Club’s head golf professional, is also a past North Carolina Open tournament champion. “We’re looking forward to hosting the tournament. The course is in excellent condition and promises to be a great battleground for what has, historically, been an exciting tournament to play in and to watch.” Recently named “The Best New Course in North Carolina,” by the 130 members of the North Carolina Golf Panel, the private Reserve Club is the fourth championship-caliber course for St. James Plantation, the number one-selling community in the Coastal Carolinas. This gated coastal community near Southport is also the home to three other courses: The Members Club, The Founders Club and The Players Club. At 7,212 yards from the championship tees and 4,925 yards from the forward tees, The Reserve Club course appeals to players of all skill levels. With bent grass greens, it plays to a par 72 and has a rating of 75.2 and a slope of 140. The Reserve Club golf house and future clubhouse is designed by renowned architect Hugh Barrett Coyle, AIA, of Chapman, Coyle, Chapman Associates and will offer members multiple dining and cocktail areas. The renowned architect has also designed The Signature Club, the Reserve Club’s state-of-the-art fitness clubhouse. Members will enjoy expansive fitness and aerobics spaces, a juice bar and retail shop, massage rooms and separate his-and-hers steam showers and saunas. The outdoor pool complex will offer several pools along with cabanas, a snack bar and covered meeting areas. Three tennis courts with a covered pavilion will also join the superb amenities.
