- The South Brunswick Islands Interchurch Council will hold its 3rd
annual Ocean Isle Beach 2007 Run/Walk For Food on Saturday, January
6 at Ocean Isle Beach. This annual half-marathon and 5K run is a
major fund-raising event benefiting the Council’s food pantry, which
serves between 75 and 100 families every Saturday from its location
in downtown Shallotte.
Both races begin at 9 a.m.
along a USATF-certified course that begins in front of the Ocean
Isle Beach Town Hall and takes runners to the mainland and back over
the Odell Williamson high-rise bridge with its scenic views of the
island and the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway.
Early entry registration is
$30 for the half-marathon and $25 for the 5K; the fee includes a
logo-design long-sleeved T-shirt. After January 2 fees go up by $5
each.
Awards will be presented to
the top three male and female runners in the following age groups:
14 and under, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49,
50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, and 70 and up. The grand prize in both
the male and female top finishers in the half-marathon is a weekend
at the beach, courtesy of Hobbs Realty of Holden Beach.

The South Brunswick Interchurch Council is a coalition of Christian
churches of all denominations working together to meet the needs of
the poor and underprivileged in the South Brunswick area, providing
emergency food, shelter, transportation and medical assistance.
