Silver Coast
Winery - 2005 Crush and Awards
Press
Release
October 31, 2005 - Ocean Isle
Beach,
North Carolina (NC) - As
the 2005 grape harvest draws to a close, Silver Coast Winery has
quite a few reasons for celebration. After receiving some sixty-two
tons of grapes this fall, the winery is at the last stages of
pressing what looks to be some promising juice. This years’ harvest
went a little long as the grape pickers waited out the sporadic
rains and left some varieties on the vines to fully ripen. Overall
the winery was very pleased with the quality of the grapes. Dana
Keeler, the winemaker, is particularly optimistic about the opulent
style of the Touriga grapes which arrived. He is also looking
forward to working with the 2005 Viognier grapes which produce a
more elegant, mineral driven white wine.
The Brunswick County winery has
been busy collecting awards in a variety of wine competitions. The
2005 Mid-Atlantic Southeastern Wine Competition awarded Silver Coast
eight medals for their wines, five wines garnered gold, two stole
silvers and one bronze.
The winery also faired very well in the recent North Carolina State
Fair Wine Competition, taking home six medals, three silver and
three bronze. The new vintages from Silver Coast Winery have done
exceptionally well with judges and tasters. Both red and white wines
have gained considerable recognition.
Silver Coast Winery, located just 15 minutes from the beach in a
woodland setting near Ocean Isle Beach NC offers daily wine tastings
and tours. The winery also has unique gift shops, eclectic art
gallery, extensive picnic grounds and a beautiful barrel room for
weddings and special events. For additional information contact the
winery at (910) 287-2800 or check out the website at
