New Programs/Events

Teen, Pre-teen, and Youth Activities
The Oak Island Parks and Recreation Department will offer the following activities:

November 3rd- Teen Council Meeting-Teen Center-5:30pm ages 10-18
November 4th- Unite the Generations-Bingo Night-Recreation Center 5-6pm ages 5-9
November 4th- Chili and a Movie- Teen Center-5pm $1 ages 10-18
November 5th- Game Day-Teen Center-12-4pm ages 10-18
November 6th- Skating and Scooters 1-5pm $5 ages 10-18
November 11th- Youth and Teen Thanksgiving-Recreation Center 9am-2pm $2 ages 5-18
Musical Theatre Demo-Recreation Center-2pm-3pm ages 7-18

In-line Hockey League Registration
Boys and girls, ages 6-18, may register from October 20th through November 11th to join this hockey league for in-line roller skaters. Practice will begin in November. Fee is $15 for residents and $20 for non-residents. Call 278-4747 for more information. Register at the Oak Island Recreation Center.

Teen Center to Open
The Oak Island Teen Center is scheduled to open on November 1st. Hours will be Tuesday through Friday, 4-7pm and Saturday, 12-4pm. Call 278-4747 for more information.

Get Moving Again Oak Island
The Oak Island Parks and Recreation Department would like to challenge residents to complete a town goal of 200,000 minutes of movement in a 10-week time frame. The Department also wants to meet a goal of at least 75 total participants. Join us as we strive to increase the physical activity level of our community. Pre-register at the Recreation Center or by calling 278-5518.

Arts By The Shore
Arts By The Shore, the 11th annual judged art show held by Oak Island Parks and Recreation and the Oak Island Art Guild will be held November 4, 2005 from 12 pm to 8:00 pm and November 5, 2005 from 9 am – 4:30 pm at the Oak Island Recreation Center, 3003 E. Oak Island Drive, Oak Island, NC. Reception will be held on November 6, 2005 from 1-4 pm. Awards will be presented at 2 pm. Work will be picked up at 4 pm. Call 278-5518 for more information on the registration process.

Fishing Clinic-Inshore
The Oak Island Parks and Recreation Department will sponsor a fishing clinic on November 12th at the Oak Island Recreation Center, beginning at 10am. Fee is $5. Captain Rick Bennett will lead an informative and hands-on clinic with emphasis on reds, flounder, trout, Spanish, bonito, cobia, barracuda and more. Space is limited. Call 278-5518 to pre-register.

Autumn Kayak Trips
Perfect for the beginner paddler, these trips offer a first-hand chance to see birds, fish, and other aquatic wildlife up close. Trip fess are $10 for residents and $15 for non-residents. Pre-register by calling 278-5518.

Ski Trip
The Oak Island Parks and Recreation Department is sponsoring two three-day ski trips to Wintergreen Ski Resort. Dates are January 21-23 or February 13-15. Prices include transportation to and from Oak Island, lodging, equipment rental, lessons, and three days of unlimited skiing!! Prices are $229 per person for double accommodations. Note: By Law, appropriate car seats/booster seats are required for ages 8 and under or 80 pounds when participating in Recreation Department programs involving transportation.
