Council Seeks Entries For Fall Show
August 20, 2005 - Southport,
Carolina (NC) - The sixth annual Brunswick Arts Council Fall Show &
Sale will be held October 3 through October 15 at Franklin Square
Gallery in Southport, North Carolina.
Artists aged 18 and over who
reside in Brunswick County, North Carolina or those who currently
belong to Brunswick Arts Council, Waterway Art Association,
Associated Artists of Southport or Oak Island Art Guild are
eligible. The entry fee is $25 for one or two entries.
An awards reception will be
held at Franklin Square Gallery from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday October
9. Over $2,300 in cash will be awarded, including $750 for the newly
designated Victor Gerloven award, which is being given in honor of
the Council’s late president who passed away in June of this year.
In addition there will be
material and purchase awards from local businesses. Judges for the
show are pastel, mixed media and watercolor artist Jane Staszak for
two dimensional entries and Hiroshi Ssueyoshi for 3D pieces. In
2004, Staszak’s work earned Best in Show at the annual juried July
National Show in Southport, North Carolina. Sueyoshi is an
award-winning potter whose work is in many collections includig the
Smithsonian Institute in Washington, DC and the Mint Museum in
Charlotte, North Carolina.
The Brunswick Arts Council is
a nonprofit 501 (3) c organization, the goal of which is to promote
art programs and artists throughout the County. It takes no
commission on art sales at the show. One hundred percent of all
sales go to the artists. The show is being co-sponsored by Brunswick
Arts Council, Associated Artists of Southport, Oak Island Art Guild
and Waterway Art Association. In addition, Brunswick Electric
Membership Corporation awarded a special grant for the show.
All work must be
pre-registered by no later than Friday, September 16. Interested
