What started out as a hobby for two local Southport residents has quickly become their passion. Monica and Benjamin Celinski of Southport started The Southport Times (www.southporttimes.com) in April of 2004 with the intent of sharing the beauty of the historic fishing village of Southport via the Internet. The website sprouted from modest beginnings. When first launched the site offered a business directory, a dinning guide, a golf guide, a real estate guide, maps, weather and a calendar of local activities and events. Recent additions include a local events archive, articles, news and press releases of local interest, photo galleries and more. “Our next undertaking will be to include photographs of each and every business in our Business Directory,” said Monica. “Our site has been well received by local residents as well as by people looking to visit the area from other parts of North Carolina and the United States. We have received inquiries from as far away as California, Arizona and New Hampshire to name a few,” stated Benjamin. “Our site traffic is growing exponentially. We predict this rapid growth to continue with the approach of the busy tourist season and also because of the explosive growth of the Southport area. February was a record month for our website. We had 5,932 visitors, 23,881 page views and 226,473 hits during the month of February 2005. By far our busiest month ever,” Celinski further stated. “This level of traffic makes www.southporttimes.com the most visited website in the Southport area,” according to Celinski. “We enjoy what we do and we look forward to continuing to add more and more features to our website.
