An event to raise funding for children’s water safety programs is slated for Saturday, January 13, 2018, in Boiling Spring Lakes. The Spring Lake Shiver Polar Splash, to benefit the Jack Helbig Memorial Foundation, will be held at the Spring Lake in BSL. All participants, and last-minute registrants, should arrive at noon, with the Splash following at 1:00 p.m. Teams, and family-friendly costumes, are encouraged. Free coffee, hot chocolate, and hot dogs will be provided. Registration can be done at raceentry.com, or jackhelbig.org. There are plans for the Polar Splash to become an annual event, with the addition of a 5-K race/Fun Run.
The mission of the JHMF is to prevent childhood drownings through education and awareness. The foundation was established by local residents Justin and Kelly Helbig, following the 2010 drowning of their young son, Jack.
