Editor's Notes: This postcard features the Garrison House, which was part of Fort Johnston. Fort Johnston was built in the 1700s and was the first fort to ever be built in North Carolina. The Garrison House, which has been restored, has been used by many government and military agencies since the fort closed in 1881. Up until recently, the Garrison House was the home to the Commanding Officer of The Sunny Point Military Ocean Terminal.
