Thomas S. Bowmer - Southport

Mr. Thomas Smith Bowmer age 80 of Southport died Sunday January 22, 2012 at home surrounded by his children and grandchildren.

Mr. Bowmer was born in Southport, NC on November 8, 1931 and was the son of the late Henry Thomas Bowmer and Lettie Amelia Dosher Bowmer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane Dixon Bowmer and a granddaughter, Rebekah Elizabeth Hatch.

Mr. Bowmer was a U.S. Navy Veteran serving from June 15, 1950 until April 5, 1954. He owned and operated Cape Fear Realty of Long Beach. He was very active and supportive in numerous community affairs. He loved the Southport Community dearly and spent numerous hours at the waterfront feeding the birds and admiring the beauty of the Cape Fear River. He was an avid reader and also enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and hunting.

He is survived by three children, Joan Newton, Suzanne Hatch and husband Warren, Russell Bowmer and Jodie Haller all of Southport ; six grandchildren, Joanna, Christina, Jonathan, Katelyn , Jonah and Jennifer ; four great grandchildren, Kyle , Max , Marla and Selah and his feline companion, “Kitty Cat.”

A celebration of life service will be held Saturday January 28th, 2012 at 3pm at Southport Baptist Church with Reverend Jason Bland and Reverend Bill Van Meter officiating.
