Patricia Carol
Hoskinson - Oak Island
Patricia
Carol Hoskinson, 92, of Oak Island, NC, departed to a
kinder, better place on February 2, 2012 while at home.
James, as always, was by her side. She was also
surrounded by her children and grandchildren.
Patricia was born
in Deshler, Ohio, on June 20, 1919, to the late Terrance
B. King and Mildred House. In addition to her parents,
Patricia was preceded in death by her brothers, Winfield
and Byron King.
As a sophomore at Deshler High School, she met the love
of her life, James Hoskinson. Shortly after graduation,
on September 26th, 1937, they united in marriage. Thus
began a love affair that would last for nearly 75 years.
Their devotion to each other and their long and loving
marriage was an inspiration to all who crossed their
paths.
From her earliest years, Patricia was a talented artist.
As a young child, she attended classes at the Toledo
Museum of Art. At Deshler High School, she served as the
artist and editor of the school paper. She received a
Bachelor of Science degree in Art Education from the
University of Akron. She was a dedicated art teacher in
the Akron public school system for eleven years. While
residing in Akron, she was accepted as a member of the
Business and Professional Women organization. She also
served as the President of the local chapter of the AARP
in Akron, coordinating monthly dinners and speakers for
senior citizens. Upon her retirement in 1978, she
retired to beautiful Long Beach, NC, realizing her
lifelong dream of living by the ocean. She became an
active member of the Associated Artists of Southport,
and served as their President. She was an active
volunteer in various art groups in Wilmington and
Southeastern North Carolina, and was an award winning
artist. Patricia was an active volunteer for the North
Carolina Maritime Museum at Southport. Patricia and her
husband James spent over thirty years traveling the
world, touring nearly every continent, focusing on art
and architecture.
Patricia loved spending time with her family whom she
loved dearly. She was a devoted wife, mother, and
grandmother. She lived life to the fullest, until the
end. She will live on in the hearts of all who knew her;
she will never be forgotten. Her passion for life, art,
education, and travel impacted her family forever.
James is forever grateful for the compassionate and kind
care that Patricia received from Dr. Domenic Palagruto
and the Lower Cape Fear Hospice group. Thank you Kim,
Tammy, and Chris.
Patricia is survived by her loving husband, James, of 74
years; two sons, David King Hoskinson and wife Jean
Marterre of Charleston, SC, and Dennis James Hoskinson
of Phoenix, AZ; four grand children, Maria Yonsun Reiss
of Phoenixville, PA, Patricia Anne Ko of Traverse City,
MI, David James Hoskinson of Laveen, AZ, and Susan
Denise Stoddard of Phoenix, AZ. She also leaves this
world with 12 great grandchildren who adored her – David
Jr, Joshua, and Courtney Hoskinson; India Reiss; Ashley,
Rachel, Megan, and Alyssa Ko; and Faith, Elise, Kaitlyn,
and Chloe Stoddard.
