Lois H. Richardson - Leland

Lois H. Richardson, age 71, of Leland died Thursday, August 16, 2012 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington.

Mrs. Richardson was born in Carteret County on April 22, 1941, daughter of the late Roy and Katie Smith Hill. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Emmitt and Warren Hill, a sister, Betty Karnes, two grandchildren, Adam Thigpen and Joy Thigpen McKenney and a great grandchild, Louis Adam McKenney. Mrs. Richardson was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother and loved all her family. She enjoyed quilting.

Survivors include her husband, Paul Richardson of the home; seven children, Judy Hughes and husband Charles of Emerald Isle, NC, Marvin Thigpen, Jr. and wife Annie of South Boston, Virginia, Rev. Rory Thigpen and wife Susie of Loris, SC, Ned Thigpen and wife Lisa of Burlington, NC, Mark Karnes of Bolivia, David Karnes of Leland, Paula Knox and husband Clint of Bolivia; two brothers, Elwood Hill of Wilmington, Ellis Hill of Kinston; two sisters, Barbara Jenkins of Pink Hill, NC, Jennie H. Smith of Erwin, NC; sister-in-law, Hilda Hill of Wilmington; ten grandchildren, Hannah, Daniel, Caleb, Jonathan, Benjamin, Karleigh, Hayden, Colby, Mason, and Stacy; and five great grandchildren, Austin, Mackenzie, Seth, Zachary, and Chelsea.

Funeral services will be Monday, August 20, 2012 at 3:00 pm at Mt. Olive Baptist Church with Reverend Anthony Clemmons and Reverend V.C. Potter officiating. Interment will follow in Oleander Memorial Gardens, Wilmington.

Pallbearers will be Rev. Rory Thigpen, Ned Thigpen, David Karnes, Mark Karnes, Clint Knox, and Dustin Knox. An Honorary Pallbearer will be Charles Hughes.

The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
