James C. Harrington - Southport

Jim Harrington, 74, of Southport, NC passed away on June 23, 2012 after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease.

He was born in New York City, married the love of his life, Lorraine, and pursued a career with the U.S. space program along with becoming an avid fisherman. His career included being named as Manager for the first Luna Module; Director for the Apollo XII moon landing mission – responsible for the landing and safe return of men who walked on the moon; and Director of NASA Spacelab I.

At his side when he went to be with his beloved Jesus was Lorraine, his wife of 49 years, his children Lynn, June and James, and his grandchildren Mallorie, Lauren and Hunter.

A funeral mass will be held at The Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at 11:00 AM.

Jim’s family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in his memory to The Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Life Care Center.
