Frances E. Potter - Winnabow

Frances E. Potter - WinnabowFrances E. Potter, 89, of Winnabow, North Carolina passed away on Sunday, September 30, 2012 at Silver Stream Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Mrs. Potter was born in Bridgewater, Massachusetts on October 18, 1922 and moved to North Carolina in 1946 when she married her late husband, Ira Alden Potter, Sr., whom she met while they were both serving in the US Army during WWII.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Potter was preceded in death by a daughter Sherry Potter Caudill (Bobby); a granddaughter Sondra Caudill; five half-brothers Harold Horton, Jerry Horton, Donald Horton, Ervin Horton and Steve Horton; and two half-sisters Ethelyn Souza and Millie Horton.

Mrs. Potter is survived by a daughter, Kathy Potter Garris (Garry) of Wilmington, and a son Ira Alden “Al” Potter, Jr. (Colleen); grandchildren Miranda Potter Lowendowski (Eric), Julia Potter Britt (Lonnie), and Justin Potter; great-grandchildren Cassidy Pope, Aaron Roberts, and Hailey Britt, all of Winnabow; three half-brothers Bill Horton, Ray Horton, and Walter Horton of Rhode Island; three half-sisters Doris Horton and Dorothy Riberio of Rhode Island, and Barbara Lussier of Tennessee; and many nieces and nephews. In addition, she leaves behind a special friend and caregiver Peggy Mills of Winnabow.

Mrs. Potter was a devoted Christian who loved doing things for others, especially cooking. Her BBQ sauce is famous around the Winnabow area. She had many friends because she was a good friend to all.

A graveside service will be held at Peace Memorial Baptist Church, 5811 Ocean Highway, Winnabow, NC, at 2:00 pm Tuesday, October 2, 2012 after which the family will have a visitation period at the cemetery.
