Clinton David Harley

Mr. Clinton David
Harley, 66 of Southport, died Thursday, June 14, 2012 in
the Lower Cape Fear Hospice and LifeCare Center in
Wilmington after a 22 year courageous battle with
prostate cancer. He was often referred to as “Megatron”
and a trooper due to his many different bouts and
rebounds. The lives he touched during his journey were a
testament to his spirit and his genuine kindness to
others.
Mr. Harley was born July 4, 1945 in Charleston, SC the
son of the late Clinton and Frances McCullough Harley.
Mr. Harley was a member of Southport Baptist Church and
was currently a Deacon. He grew up in Newland, NC, and
after high school graduated from North Carolina State
University with a degree in education. Mr. Harley worked
with Eveready Battery for 22 years, starting in
Cleveland, OH, moving to Charlotte, NC, then to
Maryville, MO, and ending his career in Greenville, NC.
He then spent eight years with the Eaton Corporation in
Laurinburg, NC. Mr. Harley retired from Wells Fargo Home
Mortgage in Wilmington after seven years. Mr. Harley was
a “master Mr. Fix It” and loved helping others. He and
his wife celebrated their 48 year anniversary on June 5,
2012.
Surviving are his wife Ira “Jean” Harley of Southport,
two daughters, Patricia Harley Allsbrook and husband
Jeff of Scotts Hill, and Elizabeth Jensen Evansek and
husband Paul of Wilmington; an aunt, Nell McCullough; 6
grandchildren, Zachariah Allsbrook, Brendan Jensen, Erin
Jensen, Adam Evansek, Noah Evansek, and Hannah Evansek;
several cousins, Dwight Beheler, Beth Bozard, John
Althaus, Lee Ann McCullough, Tina Swanson, Tommy,
George, and Joyce McCullough.
The funeral service will be held at 4:00 pm on Sunday,
June 17, 2012 at Southport Baptist Church with Reverend
Jason Bland officiating. The family will receive friends
from 3:00 pm until 4:00 pm prior to the service at the
church.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Southport
Baptist Church, 200 North Howe Street, Southport, North
Carolina, The Jimmy V Foundation, 106 Towerview Court,
Cary, NC 27513, or Lower Cape Fear Hospice and LifeCare

Carolina 28401.
