Charles Royal Wilson, Sr. - Oak Island

Charles Royal Wilson, Sr. 74 of Oak Island, died Thursday, March 1, 2012 at his home.

Mr. Wilson was born March 12, 1937 in Rowan County, son of the late Robert Roscoe Wilson and Ora Lee Loflin Wilson. Mr. Wilson was a member of First Baptist Church of Oak Island. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Mr. Wilson retired after 25 years from Food Lion grocery stores in Salisbury. He served several years on the Long Beach Rescue Squad and the Yaupon Beach Fire Department. Mr. Wilson loved to fish and for the last 30 years, he owned and operated Oak Island Sporting Goods. He was preceded in death by a brother Robert Wilson, and four sisters Helen Harmon, Audrey Ervin, Doris Moore, and Emily Hendrix.

Surviving are his wife Rosalie Wilson of the home; two sons, Charles R. Wilson, Jr. of Ash, and James Robert Wilson of Oak Island; two daughters, Sonja Miller and husband Pete of Salisbury, and Cindy Weaver of Oak Island; three sisters Mary Pauline Wilson of Salisbury, Virginia Jacobs and husband Bill of Asheboro, and Donna Tayloe of Durham. Seven grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm, on Sunday, March 4, 2012 at First Baptist Church of Oak Island with Reverend Charlie Carter officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 pm Sunday at the church prior to the service.
