Sandra Swanson “Sandy” St. Clair - St. James

Sandra Swanson “Sandy” St. ClairSandy St. Clair, after a lengthy battle with ALS/Lou Gehrig’s Disease, passed away on Friday, December 30, 2011 surrounded by her family and friends at her home in Southport, North Carolina.

Sandy was born on May 7, 1943, in New Haven, Connecticut. She spent her childhood in Branford, Connecticut where she attended and graduated from Branford High School in 1961. She also graduated from Becker Junior College in Worcester, Massachusetts, and in 1963 she returned to New Haven where she worked for the Yale Medical School.

In 1965, Sandy married Stillman St. Clair in East Haven, Connecticut. After two years in the Army, they settled in the St. Louis, Missouri area where they lived for 15 years. While in St. Louis she served as office manager for a number of doctors and served on the board of St. Richard’s Catholic Church and School. In 1982, she and Stillman moved to Southington, Connecticut where they lived for 12 years. She managed the office for a prescription drug company and was on the board of St. Dominic’s Catholic Church where she also coordinated a number of church projects. In 1994 they moved back to St. Louis where they lived until 2007 when they retired to their home in Southport, North Carolina.

Sandy is survived by her husband of 46 years, Stillman. In addition, she leaves a son, Scott and his wife Jeanette of Raleigh, NC and a daughter, Dena Imbergamo, and her husband William Imbergamo of Vienna, VA. Sandy also had three granddaughters, Kendall and Taylor St. Clair of Raleigh and Jennifer Imbergamo of Vienna, VA.

The St. Clair family would like to publicly thank Mary McNear, Tammy Blake and others of Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Salita Gleason, Maggie Orr and others from Coastal Companion Care for the wonderful care they afforded Sandy.

A private memorial service will be held.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to The ALS Association Jim “Catfish” Hunter Chapter, 120 Penmarc Drive, Suite 101, Raleigh, NC 27603 and to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, Wilmington Hospice Care Center, 1406 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401.
