Gerald Raymond
Fox, 83, of St. James, died on November 6, 2011 at Lower
Cape Fear Hospice and Life Care Center, Wilmington, N.
C.
Mr. Fox was born December 20, 1927, in Rochester, N.Y.,
the son of the late Raymond Clyde Fox and Meta Graumenz
Fox. He was a 1949 accelerated graduate of the
University of Rochester and worked for 43 years for
General Electric in Schenectady, N.Y. He spent 35 years
with GE as an Engineering Manager in Research and
Development, where his focus was energy conversion
systems, power plant development, space power systems
and other related engineering activities. He was active
in the GE Elfun Society, served as the head of the
Bearings and Lubrication Laboratory at GE and was
president of the Schenectady chapter of the American
Society of Mechanical Engineers for a number of years.
An avid golfer, he learned the game at Durand Eastman
Golf Club in Rochester, and once had a hole-in-one on
the 17th hole at Whispering Pines Golf Club in
Schenectady. Mr. Fox was a member of St. Philip’s
Episcopal Church in Southport. He was preceded in death
by a son, James Raymond Fox.
Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Ruth Uehlin Fox of
St. James; a son, Michael Fox, and girlfriend Sandy
Francis of Kingston, Wash.; a daughter, Susan Baynes,
and husband Daniel of Williston, Vt.; a brother, Roger
R. Fox, and wife Nancy of Irondequoit, N.Y.; a
daughter-in-law, Janice Fox of Tecumseh, Mich.; seven
grandchildren: Erin Baynes, Julia Fox, Luke Baynes and
wife Karen, Joshua Fox and wife Jennifer, Jordan Fox,
Rebekka Fox, and Zachary James Fox; two
great-grandchildren: Carter James Fox and Cameron Wells
Fox; and many nephews and nieces.
A memorial service will be held at St Philip’s Episcopal
Church in Southport on Saturday November 12, 2011 at
11:00 AM with Reverend Barry Kubler officiating.
