Description: This
article appeared in the December 28, 2005 edition of The State Port
Pilot. This article reports that Long Beach Pier located on Oak
Island, NC is scheduled to close for business on January 6, 2006 and
is scheduled to be demolished in January or February of 2006 to make
way for new oceanfront homes.
Editor's Update: As of June 24, 2006, Long Beach Pier has
yet to be demolished, as originally planned. The building that once housed the grill and
tackle shop has been demolished as originally planned. The pier
still stands, as of this date, in substantially the same condition

indicated that the developer of the property has decided to leave
the pier for private use by the future residents of the property.
