Hurricane Charley - August 14, 2004

August 14, 2004 - Southport, North Carolina (NC) - Hurricane Charley was a very fast moving storm but packed a pretty good punch for a minimal category 1 storm. Structural damage was moderate on Oak Island in particular. Just about every oceanfront home and second row home lost roofing shingles and siding. Some homes lost a significant amount of siding. The most dramatic damage noted by this reporter was a roof from an oceanfront home completely torn from the home and landed on the deck of a second row home diagonally across the street. Flooding from Hurricane Charley was minimal, as were power outages. Overall, Charley was a weak, fast moving storm causing minimal damage.
