The North Carolina 4th of July Festival

Southport, NC is home to the North Carolina 4th of July Festival. Southport has celebrated the fourth of July in grand style for over 200 North Carolina Fourth of July Festivalyears. In colonial times, ships in the harbor would fire their cannons on the 4th of July. In 1972, Southport was incorporated as the N.C. 4th of July Festival. Over 50,000 people come to the 4th of July Festival each year.

The official dates of the Fourth of July festival are July 2nd through July 5th. Some of the activities that you will find at the North Carolina 4th of July Festival include a Naturalization Ceremony, food vendors, a pancake breakfast, over 100 arts & crafts booths, a 5 mile run, a concert put on by the Sea Notes Chorus, live stage entertainment, sailboat races, children’s entertainment and games, a national art show at Franklin Square Art Gallery, the opening of the old jail, a televised parade, a shag contest, veteran’s recognition, a flag retirement ceremony and other activities including horseshoes and volleyball. The parade starts on the morning of the 4th and is televised by WWAY TV-3. On the evening of the 4th you can see a spectacular fireworks display.
