Bald Head Island Ferry Ran Aground

The Bald Head Island Ferry "Adventure" ran aground carrying close to 60 passengers which mostly consisted of personnel working on Bald Head Island during their daily commute to the Island on the 9:00 AM ferry on Tuesday, Dec 17th. For some unknown reason, the ferry deviated from its course on the channel also used by freight ships at the mouth of the Cape Fear River and ran aground at an area known as Battery Island.

It is reported that 13 people were injured, one of which had to be airlifted to the local hospital, Dosher Memorial. Some were transported in stretchers and others walked in for medical services. None of the injuries were reported to be serious.

On Thursday, Dec 19th on or about 8:45 AM. The Ferry seems to be floating as it has turned around facing west protected by the U.S. Coast Guard and accompanied by a large tug boat.

The Coast Guard is currently conducting an investigation. More news articles will be posted here as they become available
