Using 3/50 To Improve Sales & Profits
Seminar Series Begins September 15th

August 27, 2010 – Southport, North Carolina (NC) - This past Spring the Southport-Oak Island Area Chamber of Commerce introduced the 3/50 Project to our area. A simple idea put forth by Cinda Baxter, a Minneapolis, MN business owner that requested residents pick three independent businesses in the area and spend a combined total of $50 each month in those businesses . The Chamber distributed posters and handouts all around our area explaining the benefits to residents for spending $50 a month with local independent businesses. Benefits that included how it could save our local economy and mean less in tax burdens to residents. The Chamber was encouraged by the residents initial response to the 3/50 Project.

In addition, the 3/50 Project also calls for independent businesses to provide residents with the best customer service experience possible and to say “Thank You” to those residents for choosing to spend their money with an independent business. An upcoming Seminar Series entitled “Using 3/50 to Improve Sales and Profits” will focus on our area’s independent retail, service and restaurant sectors. At the completion of the three sessions, businesses will have useful tips on everything from appearance, bridging territories for customers, event marketing, customer service, communication and convenience, up selling, cross selling, customer lists, loyalty rewards, and internet marketing, including social networks.

The Southport-Oak Island Area Chamber of Commerce is proud to co-sponsor the seminar series with the Small Business Technology Development Center @ UNCW. The SBTDC @ UNCW helps small business owners (and those interested in starting a business) meet the challenges of today's business environment, manage that ever-changing world, and plan for the future of their business. SBTDC provides management counseling and educational services to small and mid-sized businesses.

The series will begin on September 15th with Attracting Customers and Event Marketing. The second seminar in the series entitled Keeping & Creating Loyal Customer will be held on October 13th. The final session on Internet Marketing & Social Networks will be held on November 3rd. All seminars will be held from 8am – 10am at the Southport-Oak Island Area Chamber of Commerce Welcome Center, 4841 Long Beach Road, Southport. The seminars are free and open to any business owner but pre-registration is required by calling 457-6964 or emailing karen@southport-oakisland.com.
