The North Carolina
Maritime Museum at Southport
Relocation is a Community Event
March
16, 2010 –
Southport, North Carolina
(NC) -
Things have been happening at the corner of Moore and Davis Streets
in downtown
Southport, NC. Digging and planning have been going on to turn
the barracks located at
Ft. Johnston into the new home of the Museum. This project is a
community wide effort in Southeastern NC as the final structure
expects to welcome more than 100,000 guests per year.
Fund raising activities will
be the next step taken. This step will precede the finalization of
the structural plans as the monies needed to support the renovation
must be raised immediately. Concept sketches for the new structure
are being studied. They have a feel of being a part of the greater
historic waterfront community.
The Friends of the
NC Maritime Museum at Southport initial fund raising activity is
a
golf tournament to be held on April 28, 2010 at the
Members Club in nearby
St. James. The entire community is being asked to help the
barracks renovation effort by supporting this tournament. Sponsor
and Golf Registration Forms are available on-line at
www.friendsncmmsouthport.org $85 for golf, cart, drink, and
dinner.
There will be a live auction
and raffle that will include maritime artifacts!
Pay-pal is also available
on-line if you wish to make a donation.
