Dedication of the Stede Bonnet
Historical Highway Marker

September 1, 2008 – Southport, North Carolina (NC) - Join the Friends of the Southport Maritime Museum for the dedication of the Stede Bonnet Historical Highway Marker on Friday, September 26 at 12 noon. The marker is located on Ferry Place, near the Southport-Fort Fisher Ferry gift shop. A reception will follow at the Maritime Museum located at 116 N. Howe Street in Southport. To reserve a place at the reception, call 910-457-0003.

Stede Bonnet was nicknamed "the gentleman pirate". Colonel William Rhett of Charleston, SC, led the expedition that captured Bonnet on September 26, 1718 in the Smithville harbor. Bonnet was hanged in Charleston in December, 1718.
