New Programs/Events

Teen, Pre-teen, and Youth Activities
The Oak Island Parks and Recreation Department will offer the following activities:

November 18th- Frisbee Baseball-Teen Center-5pm ages 10-18
November 18th- Movie and Pizza-Recreation Center- 5-7pm $2 ages 5-9
November 19th- Creative Wall Hangings-Teen Center- 1pm $1 ages 10-18
November 23rd- Making Pumpkin Bread-Recreation Center- 2:30-5pm ages 5-18

Pre-registration is required for all activities. Call 278-5518 for more information.

In-line Hockey League Registration
Boys and girls, ages 6-18, may register to join this hockey league for in-line roller skaters. Practice will begin in November. Fee is $15 for residents and $20 for non-residents. Call 278-4747 for more information. Register at the Oak Island Recreation Center.

Teen Center Hours
The Oak Island Teen Center hours are as follows: Tuesday through Friday, 4-7pm and Saturday, 12-4pm. Call 278-6552 for more information.

Get Moving Again Oak Island
The Oak Island Parks and Recreation Department would like to challenge residents to complete a town goal of 200,000 minutes of movement in a 10-week time frame. The Department also wants to meet a goal of at least 75 total participants. Join us as we strive to increase the physical activity level of our community. Pre-register at the Recreation Center or by calling 278-5518.

Fishing Clinics
The Oak Island Parks and Recreation Department will sponsor the following fishing clinics:

December 3rd- Surf Fishing- 10am-Recreation Center Master Angler John Knight will teach participants various techniques and tips
that will make you a successful fisherman. He will cover tackle, bait, and hands-on demonstrations. The fee is $5. For more information call 278-4747.

December 6th- Offshore Fishing Clinic- 7pm- Recreation Center
Captain Jerry Dilsaver, currently in the Wal-mart FLW tournament series, will led this informative clinic on offshore techniques used during his 30+ years of fishing and winning local and national tournaments. This clinic is sponsored by NC Sportsman’s
Magazine and free to the public. Call 278-4747 for more information.

Autumn Kayak Trips
Perfect for the beginner paddler, these trips offer a first-hand chance to see birds, fish, and other aquatic wildlife up close. Trip fees are $10 for residents and $15 for non-residents. Pre-register by calling 278-5518.

November 22nd- 10am Wetlands

Bowling and Lunch
The Oak Island Parks and Recreation Department is sponsoring a bowling trip on Friday, November 18th. The group will depart the Recreation Center at 9:15am and will return at approximately 2pm. The group will dine at an area restaurant after bowling. Cost for the trip is $7 plus the cost of lunch. Pre-registration is required. Call 278-5518 for more information.

Ski Trip
The Oak Island Parks and Recreation Department is sponsoring two three-day ski trips to Wintergreen Ski Resort. Dates are January 21-23 or February 13-15. Prices include transportation to and from Oak Island, lodging, equipment rental, lessons, and three days of unlimited skiing!! Prices are $229 per person for double accommodations. Note: By Law, appropriate car seats/booster seats are required for ages 8 and under or 80 pounds when participating in Recreation Department programs involving transportation.
