Silver Coast Winery Wins Awards
at the Taster Guild Competition

Press Release

September 23, 2005 - Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina (NC) - Silver Coast Winery proudly received five more medals in a recent Tasters Guild Consumer Wine Judging competition. Out of 685 entries the local Brunswick County winery walked away with a double gold for the new 2004 Viognier, a silver medal for the rustic, Italian styled Barbera, as well as three bronze medals for their Cabernet, Merlot and 2004 White Merlot bottlings.

Silver Coast 2004 Viognier — Georgia
”Prominent peach and melon flavors with pleasant mineral overtones combine for a pleasing experience at the dinner table with roasted poultry or pasta with a cream sauce,” were some of the comments from one of the judges on the lovely rendition of an elegant and often times overlooked grape variety. The Viognier bottling is a recent addition to the Silver Coast line-up, but there were only 180 cases of this wonderful 2004 vintage wine produced. This is definitely a wine that offers a nice break for the everyday chardonnay and pinot grigio drinkers.

The lovely, lighter style 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon came in nose to nose with cabs from Abarbanel Wine Co. (France), Jacobs Creek (Aus), and Rodney Strong (CA). The 2002 Merlot is also a new bottling for Silver Coast Winery which has been well received by the judges thus far. The fuller-bodied Barbera came away with a silver medal and is a great accompaniment to richer Italian dishes. This wine is packed with layered dark plum skin and dried cherry compote accents and finishes with a zing of black pepper spice surrounded by a hint of black licorice.

Silver Coast Winery, located just 15 minutes from the beach in a woodland setting near Ocean Isle Beach NC offers daily wine tastings and tours.
