Southport Kicks off the Holiday Season with
Winterfest 2016, December 2-10
Southport, NC – The City of Southport will celebrate the season with the 16th annual WinterFest from December 2-10. A growing tradition since 2000, the week-long festivities, centered in historic downtown Southport, include activities for all ages.
The celebration begins with the Amuzu’s first musical performance on December 2 and is “officially kicked-off” with carolers and a tree lighting ceremony in Franklin Square Park on Saturday Dec. 3 from 5:30-7pm.
Culinary skills are put to the test on Wednesday Dec. 7 from 3-6 pm with the annual cookie contest and children are invited to “Supper with Santa’s Elves” from 5-7 pm that same day.
The Christmas movie “Polar Express” will be shown Thursday Dec. 8 starting at 5 pm at Fort Johnson/Garrison Lawn and the largest fire engine holiday parade will take place on Friday Dec. 9 down Howe Street followed by refreshments with Santa back at the Southport Fire Station. Earlier on December 9 at the NC Maritime Museum at Southport at 3 pm, there will be a special “Costumed Holiday History Tour!”
Saturday December 10 is packed with Holiday fun including the annual Winter Craft Festival from 9-4, the “Old Times Gospel Fest” from 1-3, the 27th annual Southport Christmas Tour of Homes from 2-7, tours of the Old Brunswick County Jail from 2-7, Santa’s Workshp from 10-11, a special Book Sale from 9-12 and the City’s popular Southport Christmas Flotilla at 7 pm along the waterfront.
